Monsters and Robots (1999) is a concept album by Buckethead (a member of Guns 'n' Roses from 2000 to 2004). The album is a blend of experimental rock, alt-metal, funk, and ambient and electronic sounds interspersed with some sci-fi dialogue about Giant Robot and Buckethead. It’s like a sci-fi story presented in a radio program-type format. What comes to mind for me is Orson Welles’ “The War of the Worlds” broadcast. Monsters and Robots follows Bucketheadland (1992), Giant Robot (1994), The Day of the Robots (1996), and Colma (1998), an acoustic album. What ties the first three albums together is ambient sounds (sometimes bizarre and/or quirky), weird skits, difficult instrumental passages, experimentation, and a sci-fi tone. Monsters and Robots has been rated 4 out of 5 stars by Allmusic and is one of Buckethead’s bestselling solo albums. However, it’s not “my cup of tea.” Colma is a meditation album reflecting an introspective time in Buckethead’s life (must-listen-to tracks: “For Mom,” “Big Sur Moon,” and “Watching the Boats With My Dad.” It is more my type of Buckethead music although my appreciation for his music spans his whole range. I tend to categorize Buckethead’s works into light, medium, and heavy and prefer the first two. The title of Buckethead’s first album—Bucketheadland—describes his musical output. Fans are comfortable living in Bucketheadland. Even though I am not a metal type of person (except for some Deep Purple decades ago) and came across Buckethead by accident (Pike 18 on YouTube) after listening to many of his albums, I find that I can live in Bucketheadland quite comfortably. I just pick and choose what appeals to me and leave the rest to others.Read full review
Buckethead requires a different taste in music.. I have quite a few of his CDs and enjoy them. He is a guitar virtuoso. Has played with Guns and Roses. But, his solo instrumental work is phenomenal. Again, acquired taste.. But, I like him a lot. Recommend him to anyone that likes different rock..

What a mix, features new original tracks with same group of friens, only with one small difference, Les Claypool on bass for all 12 or 13 tracks depending on what version you get. They due amazing renditions of Giant Robot (Band on NTT, not the album Giant Robot) songs aswell. From start to finish, a great album. Worth your time!
