Features Acotrs: Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, Chris Messina, Penolpe Cruz, Kevin Dunn, Javier Bardem & Patricia Clarkson. Running Time:97 Min. Rating:PG-13 Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) are yuppie girlfriends taking a summer vacation together in Spain. Vicky, the more straitlaced and uptight of the pair, is engaged to a sensible if not sensuous businessman who will provide the security Vicky is primarily seeking in life. Cristina is the very opposite, a restless and impulsive young woman who has been involved in a series of disappointing romantic relationships, which makes this friendship seem a bit odd in the first place. One evening while hanging out at a Barcelona cafe, the two women are approached at their table by Jose (Javier Bardem), a painter and rumored wife beater who simply announces, life is short, dull and full of time. So let's leave in an hour for a village where we can eat, drink and make threesome love. Now, in any other setting a disgusted Vicky is portrayed as a prude party pooper, while Cristina is the unpossessive type , who doesn't mind a brief fling sharing a guy with her best friend. Or with his deranged wife Maria Elena for that matter, who later materializes in the promiscuous personage of Penelope Cruz. And we first hear about Maria Elena when Jose's dad confesses to him that he misses having her around - after she has apparently disappeared with another man - because Maria Elena's presence feeds his own obsessive fantasies about her. Vicky Cristina Barcelona, a tarted up travelogue giving new meaning to the notion of tourism. This movie has a provocative dramatic energy to it, but at times seems to get boring with the conflicts that linger on.Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)Read full review
I love Woody Allen as an artist. He is an incredible article/ short story writer and screen writer. He has guts to write controversy and I respect that. I also respect the fact that he does not star in his latest movies for the sake of the movies. His selections of actors and actresses in this film are 10+ and the entire film is really over the top-perhaps unbelievable and yet not so. If you can "let go" late in life to appreciate the performances here I believe this will prove to be a true classic film it is that good. Life has alot of colors. As a film I believe this one is a masterpiece.
This movie will take you on a vacation to spain, with its authentic views, language and beautiful women. Javier Pardem plays an interesting leading man with all the confidence in the world. I'd recommend this movie to people that would like a taste of what the Spaniard culture is like.
Wonderful movie, actors and music. Since the beginning, when both caracters appears at airport, you'll see Woody Allens work. The "barcelona" song and a voice that talk us about Vicky and Cristina, its a nice start. Later we found Juan Antonio, a definitive latin lover. When we think good things ir over came Mary Helena. Great.
I am so sorry that I spent my hard earned money on this DVD. It was simply stupid and I could barely finish watching it. If I were you I would not even rent it. IT MAKES YOUR BRAIN FREEZE UP or you would not be able to view the entire movie!!!!
If this is Woody's come back movie, I'm sorry to report he still has a long way to go. This BluRay is not a keeper and will be resold ASAP.
