An 'under the radar' GREAT pickup!
Pickups can make a difference in your guitar. Some more then others. This one falls into the 'more' category. Dimarzio's product testimony is actually quite accurate. This is a large sounding pickup with just the right amount of output. It utilizes the Alnico V magnet in which is known for it's vintage like tones, but with guts. Imagine the sound of the Alinico II magnet. This is louder, fatter and tighter, yet JUST AS WARM, and vintage sounding. Dimarzio says it sounds great in a bright guitar to help tame it, but what I have noticed is it sounds equally as good in bright and dark sounding guitars. It's output and tonal characteristics are highly adjustable just by adjusting it's height and individual pole pieces. It's an awesome rock pickup capable of classic metal and rock ... You just need to use the right pots and pickup height to maximize it's effectiveness for your specific needs. It also cleans up very nicely just by throttling down...yet remains clear and warm. If you are familiar with Gibson's 498t pickup, this is similar, but thicker, slightly darker, and heavier. Blows away the SD JB4 by a mile! If you you're sick of thin, cold sounding, ice picky ceramic magnets, this is the ticket! I have them both in Gibson Flying Vs..and they sound awesome!
