30inch hiking sticks/batons have no actual release mechanism to release the retractable rods and return them back to the baton's base. The turn handles on the outside of the baton that you turn don't actually do anything. No matter what their position the rods will come out from the handle when you give the baton a big flick with your arm. To return the rods back into the handle you have point it down to the ground, give the rods 1 to 2 hard knocks on the ground to get them back into the base.
