A Book For EVery Single Child to Read
I bought this book at a thrift store to read to my grandchildren. I did know anything about it, but they liked it very much, and as an adult, I realized the message here was very pertinent to issues children face today at school. I donated it to their elementary school along with many other books the kids outgrew. A couple months ago my (now) 15 year old granddaughter asked me if I still had the book. Of all the books I read to them or with them over the years, she remembered that one. I was able to find it on ebay, and I read it to my two granddaughters after I received it. They still loved it. The book gives a subtle example of bullying, and how it was NOT dealt with and who it hurt. I love the book, and will keep it at my house forever. I researched the award winning author, and she ... A timeless story that can be shared with children and adults. We can not teach often enough the principle of tolerance and love. This story is about a little girl that has a "foreign" last name, she's wears the same dress to school each day and there is one girl in particular that teases her daily. The other children go along with this torment because they are afraid they may be next. This story was written in 1946 and sorry to say, some things never change.
