An excellent performance by Tom Baker and Elizabeth Sladen. Doctor Who and Sarah Jane are taken to 15th Century Earth and become involved in political intrigue and power struggles in a dukedom. Throw in an ancient cult, sacrifices and hostile alien influences, and you have a really good episode! Check out the Doctor's fencing and large monster mask! Special effects and setting are also pretty good, considering the time in which this was filmed, but watch out for cheesy lines and bad puns.
The VHS tape is sealed and won't be opened. But I can speak to the plot since I have it on DVD. An impossible scientific discovery is made that opens the portal for a Fendahl (a kind of worm) to gain foothold into this world. In some ways it's very Lovecraftian in nature just like The Seems of Doom echoed refrains from At The Mountains of Madness. The special effects were done very well for the time period. The subplot deals with greed and avarice at the academic levels which only goes to show that greed and murder aren't only done in the boardroom. Well worth watching.

I am personally a Whovian. sure there are Star Wars fans, and Star Trek fans, but I have always found Doctor Who to be the greatest of them all, especially with over 15 years of episodes to watch. here is a time Lord with the power to do anything he wants, and he goes around the galaxy saving the universe, and his pet people us earthlings as well. of course the quality of action is not what you expect in today's movies, but overall these are some great classics and I suggest you add them to your archive today, and help the tradition continue.
