About this product

Product Information

At eight years old, an impoverished Bert Facey was forced to start the backbreaking, dawn to dusk life of a farm labourer. Unschooled, his father dead, abandoned by his mother, by the age of twenty he had survived the rigours of pioneering the harsh Australian bush and the slaughter of the bloody WWI campaign at Gallipoli. Despite it all, in 1915 he finds happiness in his marriage to his wife Evelyn. This lasts nearly sixty years and carries on an inspirational tale of one man's struggle against seeminly overwhelming odds.

  • Good

Followed the very interesting book really well until the period beetween 14 and the start of characters war service. Extremely vague on that era. Was only section that could have been done better. Still there is financially a limit that Australian movies were subjected to in the 80's. My copy has been rotated and reported well from friends.Good quality and very clear dialogue .Very enjoyable

  • Learning more about Australia history.

It is a wonderful, true story about Australian boy's life growing up through hardship. It made me realize how hard of a life they had compared to ours. I knew it wasn't easy for them. Watching the scenes of him going to the first war made you think of how hard it must of been for them. It is worth watching because it will open your eyes up to see the difference between their times and our times.
