Super fun run and gun retro game

Fun arcade port of the popular Mercs top view game.

  • Better than the arcade version

Mercs was released in 1990 by Capcom for the arcade. In 1991 the game was ported on the Sega Genesis console. This is your standard run and gun fare with many extras not featured on the arcade version of the game. In the Genesis port there are 2 modes to choose from, Arcade and Original. Arcade is the arcade game and Original is a mode where you can buy items, upgrade inventory, plus have different Mercs that you can play as on missions. This mode gives the game replay value with multiple paths, decisions of which items to carry or use. The major two flaws with the game are "NO 2 player option" and the "annoying large score/stat bar" on the right side of the screen similiar to the port of Raiden on Jaguar.

  • Works. Tape in picture looked like it was holding the label on. When I received the tape is holding the cartridge together. Not a big deal as it plays

Works. Tape in picture looked like it was holding the label on. When I received the tape is holding the cartridge together. Not a big deal as it plays perfectly and the shell and manual are pristine. Still would have been better if disclosed in the description.

  • Reb Brown - the video game!

You know those movies with the most basic of plots and is just filled from beginning to end with mindless mayhem, usually involving a lot of guns? Now imagine that in the form of a 16-bit video game! Voila, you have MERCS for the Sega Genesis. From start to end, the game is mindless shooter fun; a more serious (and not as rapid fire) version as GUNSTAR HEROES, if you will. Really, how many games allow you to laugh maniacally "I'm in a TANK, motherf***er!" as you plow down enemies? Not sure, but MERCS is one of them! (Stage 5, in case you're curious) The game is a challenge, mainly because your character is so SLOOOOW! But overall, this is a great title. If you need a quick fix to satisfy your trigger finger, this is for you. Pure arcade shooter bliss.
