Sometimes it is 'chancy' buying used electronic equipment. In this case it is as advertised and all features are functional. Wish it included a remote but the ad stated there was none. Got one from another source - all works well.

Works but some reservations. (read)
I have coverted several of my movies to DVD already. That works great. However, you need the remote with this item. Without the remote, it just does not work. As it is, you are making your best tech guess. I had to buy a remote from another site, because it did not come with it. I overlooked that on the tradeport site. I had to buy one seperate from the internet. Tradeport wouldnt take it back. As for the item, Sony is always complicated but very good. This item works only with a input to the TV. I tried to get the item to change the channels like my last vcr, but it wouldnt. So that kinda defeated the porpose. I still have a very old TV. RCA. I also bought it without the instructions. Again not good. Sony is a very good product and that was why I bought it. The cost of the remote killed ... I have coverted several of my movies to DVD already. That works great. SONY... Need I say more? Excellent quality DVD recording with ease of use. VCR part works fine too. I like the remote commander gizmo which allows you to control other items, such as your cable box, etc. The only minus is not of the item, as it is due to the greedy movie industry. You will not be able to transfer all your VHS movies onto DVD. Some newer VHS tapes have a digital Copy Protect feature that will not allow dubbing onto a DVD or another VHS. There are ways around it, but they all require the use of a computer with analog video capture capabilities and are very time consuming. Unfair to say the least, since I allready paid the movie industry their dues when I purchased the movies on VHS. The reason I bought the Sony RDR-VX521DVD Recorder is because I had one just like it. I had it a long time and it gave me very good service. Not long ago it started to give me a little problem. When it shut off it was leaving a short length of tape, loose outside the Cassette. I Think it could be repaired. I was happy when I found out you had one just like it and it works very well. This is not the first time I buy from eBay and I have been very satisfied every time. Thank you.The reason I bought the Sony RDR-VX521DVD Recorder is because I had one just like it. This was a good price and quality Combo Unit
The Sony Recorder Combo was a quality excellent and a good looking machine. I had to return the unit because the Tuner Section had a problem. I then chose to take a refund instead of an exchange of another one. I will buy one Locally and not on the web.
