We bought this set to keep my 7 year old entertained during a long road trip. She didn't get tired of it and was listening the whole trip (about 10 hours). It definitely catches your attention and you always want to know what it is going to happen next. You can see their little minds being transported to a new fantasy world. Love how it encourages children and adults to use our imagination. HIghly recommend.

I enjoyed this Audio Book immensely! One of the things that intrigued me most about this particular version of the Chronicles of Narnia was that the "Magician's Nephew" was put up front as Book #1, instead of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" which is almost always listed as the first book of the Chronicles of Narnia. And it seems to "work" so much better to me with the "Magician's Nephew" as the first book in the series, since that is the book where Narnia is created, so it makes sense that that book should be first. I like that there were a host of different readers. It was refreshing to hear each book read by a different reader, both men and women and to hear them portray different male and female characters within the story. All the readers did a great job, too. I was very pleased with this Audio Book set. I specifically purchased this set because it was unabridged and because the books were kept separate (I've seen some sets that condensed two books together into one set, which must have abridged the two.) I highly recommend this set because it is unabridged. On the sets that have 5 CDs (that's 3 out of the 7 books on CD - the rest having 4 CDs), the first CD says that it is "enhanced." I don't exactly know what that refers to, but it plays fine in a regular stereo system. This Audio Book set is well worth the purchase price and I hope you enjoy listening to it!Read full review
This purchase was actually my second set - the first I had literally worn out from listening to so often! As you may already know, sometimes a narrator can ruin a good story with his or her voice, inflections, pronunciations, or other narrative elements. Not so with this collection. Each story is narrated by a different highly reputable actor, and each does a superb job. I grew up reading these books over and over, and I can honestly say that it is even more enjoyable to listen to this set than it was to read them. I can't speak for the full radio-cast production version, but the set narrated by Derek Jacobi, Jeremy Northam, Patrick Stewart, Kenneth Branagh, Lynn Redgrave, and others is phenomenal! I have given this set as gifts to children many times, and I can't recommend it highly enough! Consider buying a few copies - what greater treasure can you give a child than this beloved collection of truly brilliant storytelling?Read full review
This set of books tell the story of four children in war time England. Their adventures in Narnia, a land reached by going through an old wardrobe, are exciting for young and old to read. The morality taught is also something we all need to hear. Aslan is a wonderful, larger than life, lion who helps the children find their way, in all things. This fantasy world created by CS Lewis has become a familiar place to those who love these stories, one that anyone would love to visit. These cds keep your attention while traveling no matter what age your are. My grandkids love them.
I was first introduced to the series when my third grade teacher read the 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' to us in class. Up to that point, I wasn't much of a reader; I always chose short picture story books when I had to read. My life long love of reading started then as I read the entire series. When I married, I was shocked to discover that my 23 year old husband had never heard of Narnia. We went out and purchased the series and read them out loud to each other. Over the past 20 years we have had to trade our worn paperbacks for hardbacks as they have been read over and over by our five children (as well as my husband & myself). Our oldest child went off to college this year... guess what she's requested for Christmas... her own copy! These books are written in a language easy enough for even young children to read and understand, yet the stories are intriguing and exciting enough to keep even teenagers and adults interested. C S Lewis masterfully wrote these stories so that at each stage in your life you would gain something more and deeper with each reading. I was excited to see a major motion picture come out. Although the movie doesn't get everything just right, I believe it will probaby get more people experiencing the books for themselves. Ironically... I do not like fantasy or science fiction books... but these books are in a class of their own!Read full review
If you are interested in the classic Good vs. Evil fantasy genre, there is no better "listen" than this exciting epic by C.S. Lewis. For those who have never had the pleasure of reading 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' my suggestion is to listen to this book FIRST, although it is second in the order. Lewis wrote this book first, intended it to be read first, and it is around this book that all the others are based. While many assume these books to be specifically for children, the mature listener will glean much in the way of subtle references to mid-20th century England and especially references to the stories of Christianity in the Bible. If you are particularly religious, you will enjoy this collection immensely. However, the rest of us will certainly enjoy this book too, just as we enjoy all Good vs. Evil epics, such as Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter.Read full review
I'd read this series as a child; saw the movie when it came out; and wanted to read them again. So, I bought them new on eBay (I'll have to say here that it took me a little research and questions to sellers to verify that I had the set I wanted---they didn't all know if different actors read the books). We took two very long-drive trips this summer and my husband and I listened to these (and sometimes one or more of the three kids when they weren't watching videos--yikes). I loved the fact that there is a different actor (i.e. Vanessa Redgrave, Patrick Stewart) reading the different books. We enjoyed them a lot, although the pace is somewhat slower than I remembered as a child reading them, they were still very enjoyable (we read a lot so a 4/5 is pretty great for us because we have lots of favorites). I'm finding out that audio books are great (I can still "read" once my husband turns out the lights every night!). Highly Recommend!!!!!!!!!Read full review
I was very pleased and impressed with the quality of the recording and the excellent readers for each of the books of the Chronicles of Narnia. It doesn't skip over any of the details of the stories as the dramatized version did, even though there were aspects of the dramatized version that I did enjoy. This is an excellent buy for anyone who loves the complete unabridged version of Chronicles of Narnia!

It's a great story, but I suggest listening to the books in the order in which they were written. The narrators were adequate, but the last book, The Last Battle, was disappointing. I thought Patrick Stewart was a bit sing-songy, and didn't portray the characters well.

This is a beautiful set, and such a good deal for a brand new item! I've seen used sets for the same price. We have loved listening to them, and the box and sleeves are gorgeous.
