Works well; good value
I was having performance issues with the built-in Wifi on my Alienware Alpha that I just could not resolve. I decided to try this device with the hope that it would be less susceptible to interference. Both the overall speed and signal consistency improved by using this device. My only complaint is that the the utility software does not work with Windows 8.1. Nonetheless, set-up was not hard and its been problem free thus far. I purchased because of compatibility with Channel Master DVR+
I got a lead on this USB 2 antenna (not detachable) wifi adapter to use with my new Channel Master DVR+. Did it work: Yes! Version (V3) of this product has the same chipset as the CM USB unit available for purchase at twice the price. So I opted to make the purchase from NewEGG. Everything works fine. The advantages for me? About 3 feet of USB cord to put some distance between the WIFI unit and the DVR. In addition, this unit has 2 (non-detachable) antennas....much better than the stub that sits behind the DVR that Channel Master offers for twice the price. So far, for this application, I am EXTREMELY satisfied. Please note, the shared chipset apparently is only with V3 only. SO you are at some risk with this purchase. This wireless adapter lived up to every expectation I had and more.
Now in my home the router/modem is placed in the sun room, the sun room in my house is practically outside it is the furthest spot from my computer. I had a wireless adapter I bought of this site previously it just didn't cut it. It was honestly horrible. So I was very apprehensive about buying this one. I have 2! This thing is an easy way to get a 300Mbps WiFi adapter. Plug it into your desktop for the high-speed adapter. I use it at the local library with my laptop because it's faster than the already installed WiFi adapter. My computer sits the farthest away from the wireless router. I was using a small Cisco adapter previously and my computer was slow and I couldn't watch videos because the videos were constantly pausing and buffering. I only had one bar of reception. Great device at a great price
This little adapter really works well. With the dual antennas, it picks up signal much better than the built in wireless on my netbook, once the drivers are properly installed. I can't speak for Windows systems, nor Mac, but for Linux, update the driver package for this, and it works amazing. If not, you WILL get internet errors every few minutes. Good value; works great
First unit was broken (box was undamaged, so had to have happened during manufacturing). Returned for a refund (no problems). Ordered a second one, plugged it in, and both my Windows 10 systems recognized it and immediately was on line after putting in my password. No drivers were needed (they did include a CD, but didn't need it..). Very good price; used it to replace another brand wireless that didn't have Windows 10 drivers. It had worked on another Windows 10 system that had been upgraded from Windows 7, but would not work on a 'from scratch' Windows 10. Excellent choice for a very inexpensive wireless adapter. Would have been nice to have a longer USB cord, though. It barely reached from the back of my Dell tower computer to sitting on top of the case. If I would have had to put it on a desk I'd have had to buy a longer cable. Good performance, 75Mbps download on speedtest dot net via Spectrum cable.
