  • Charming, classic Irene Dunne

White Cliffs is a movie I have seen only once before. So I am glad to have my own copy. I have been a fan of Irene Dunne for many years.I marvel at her ability to play a much younger Susan in the beginning and transition to an older Lady Ashwood working as a nurse in a London hospital at the end. The poem by Alice Duer Miller is a must read for those who enjoy the art. The movie does not follow the poem exactly but is faithful to its origin. I believe this is Alan Marshal's best role. Frank Morgan is great as Susan's boisterous father. C. Aubrey Smith is my favorite classic pompous English gentleman. Young Roddy McDowell and Elizabeth Taylor are charming in their roles and early Peter Lawford gives you glimpses of what is to come in later years.

  • This is an excellent story about the emotions of families being torn apart with the loss of family members in a world war.

My only disappointment with the video is that there is no 'closed caption' function for the movie. Perhaps this is because of the age of the movie. Otherwise, the film quality is quite good. Needless to say, the movie cast is nothing short of excellent!

  • White Cliffs of Dover

I bought this for my wife who is a big Irene Dunn fan, a nice period piece with plenty of sentiment interlaced with a little humor, and excellent vintage film that is sure to please. the story of an American woman ( Irene Dunn ) who travels to England with her Father played by ( Frank Morgan ) and ends up falling in love with an Englishman shortly before the outbreak of WWII, which causes added drama to the relationship. An excellent vintage film.
