It's major problem is regulating the rail clicking. Because it is tied to the current it doesn't operate in sinc with the locomotives speed. There are all sorts of factors that effect when your engine actually starts moving and how fast it goes depending on consist and grade. The soundcar decoder only knows how much current is being generated. As a result it will start rail clicking before an engine moves and even stop clicking before the train stops moving. Going up a grade with a heavy consist at 10MPh but the decoder thinks your going 50 because of the current output. You can adjust this somewhat but it becomes impractical whenever you change engines or consists ETC. What it should have is a dedicated sensor that can actually monitor track speed. Something similar to what you find in a computer mouse but using invisible light. It has other applications for sound an lighting that can be useful but I don't think the cost is justifiable.
