    Entertaining great performer

    The PRR 6200 Turbine Steam Locomotive with SOS Tender required minor attention on the SOS tender. The SOS tenders are equipped with an electronic circuit board that generates basic white noise to replicate steam sounds and steam whistle including backup lamp. The SOS circuit board is isolated from the metal chassis with foam that deteriorates with age which eventually could and can ground out the SOS circuit board. I removed the old insulation and replaced it with modern foam. The locomotive and tender performed marvelously well following the tender servicing. Lionel was at fault for utilizing poor isolation foam. Many SOS Steam Locomotives will have faulty SOS circuit boards due to this problem.

    A classic thats been in the box too long

    The steam engine is a classic with all its rolling stock. However, when I went to power it up, it did not respond. I took it to a local Lionel dealer here in the area. There is a short in the wiring but its repairable. I'm ok with this. Its very rare to obtain a brand new classic like this.
