Amazing model - if price is right
The newly re-tooled Hornby B12 is definitely a model to look out for if it can be found for the right price.
The item does not disappoint; from the silky smooth, crisp lining and paintwork, to the flawless and almost silent mechanism, to the extra details that are often left out like the motion under the boiler - it really blows the original out of the water.
The only detraction with it (like so many other models) was the coal load. Luckily, it can be carefully lifted out with a small screwdriver or similar. I really can’t stress enough about taking care when doing this as a sharp movement or extra force could easily scratch the paint or make a dent in the plastic.
I would also advise you to be very careful when fitting the detail pack - the front red ‘prongs’ that attach to the buffer beam are very tight and their pegs may require trimming with a scalpel.
Anyway, these minor issues aside I can highly recommend the B12 - if you can find a bargain. I won an auction and got it BNIB for half the extortionate RRP of £160. Please DO NOT be fooled into buying it for this price! Keep an eye out for one and be patient - probably around the £120 is a reasonable price to pay for this green gem.
