The Shadow Plus version of this derailleur has a lever to minimize chain slap. For my bikepacking bike where chain slap is minimal, this works great and saves a few dozen grams of weight. It is a Dyna-Sys component, so it has to be used with Syna-Sys shifters.

You know? ANYBODY that's been riding for a long time will probably always tell you, not to bother running anything better than XT. I thought the same thing, especially, since it was already on the bike, and practically brand-new. However, I am trying to break the 20lb barrier, and so I'm having to count valuable grams (weight v. money), and I could NOT believe that this derailleur was so much lighter than XT. Well, it IS. Plus, it's super trick with the carbon cage, etc. Shifts the dream, like everything Shimano, and you can't go wrong. Decent price from these guys too.

The XTR derailleur handles a 11-40 cassette without any need for a Wolftooth adapter. However the B screw maxes out on a 11-40, so it wont work on a 11-42. The XTR is lighter than the XT, but they shift about the same.

Just 186g! You don't need 11 speed. You don't deserve to pay for a 12 speed. I use it with a XTR 2 chainrings crank. This is the best setup for me and I recommend it.
