The finish on this uke is phenomenol. It plays and sounds great as well. Comparable to many higher cost uses on the market. Great quality and workmanship for a low cost. This is a laminate mahogany, laminates are well suited for all climates and no need for a humidifier. I own 2 of these and really enjoy them. This is a great beginner uke but also well suited for veteran player. Purchasing from MIM'S UK ES was also a pleasure. Super fast shipping along with free set up makes this an unbeatable deal.

I purchased this ukulele after owning the Kala soprano ukulele with the extended (concert length) neck. This is a very sweet sounding, robust sounding ukulele. I especially appreciate the ease of playing as the action is close with little to no buzz from the strings. With eight strings, this offers the more robust sound of a guitar while maintaining the ease of a ukulele. I takes a little getting used to with it's deeper sound. I find I prefer some music on the soprano and some more on this tenor 8 string. Finger picking is a bit more of a challenge with eight strings; however, the sweet sound is worth the effort. This ukulele offers a bit of a wider neck (compared to the long necked soprano) and offers a little more room for my chubby fingers. I recommend this ukulele to anyone looking for a little different expression of their music without the need to learn the chords over (it uses the same chord positions as the soprano and concert ukuleles)Read full review

This is a great little ukulele; high gloss finish and beautiful abalone inlay rosette! It is tiny, but still playable, and I am a six foot tall guy who can ALMOST palm a basketball. It sounds amazing for a tiny instrument, BUT I have one caveat. With the strings it came with, it had intonation problems as you went down the fingerboard. After consulting some knowledgeable folks, I tried fluorocarbon strings. I went with GHS, but there are lots of options out there. After installing the fluorocarbon GHS strings, the intonation problems went away entirely. I purchased the matching hard shell case, and it is now my go-to travel instrument. I absolutely LOVE it!

Its small size doesn't keep it from sounding like a regular soprano. The finger positions are comfortable, not too squeezed. And Mim did a fine job setting it up. Must say, though that the cedar top is darker (ruddier) than the tawny one in the photo. This must be a result of the lighting and camera registration. It's still so cute, though, and I'm really happy I got it.

I think this ukulele is a good value for the the money. The finish of the instrument is a little bit rough in some areas, mine has a small ding, or notch in the sound hole. Inside you do see some evidence of dried glue and some bracing that is not completely even or straight. But on the whole, it sounds good. It is loud, the intonation is fairly good. I think that Worth strings improve the sound quite a bit. I would recommend this ukulele to anyone, it is a lot of fun.

Wonderful sound that rings. construction generally very neat with no blobs of glue inside or out. The green finish looks even, not that it matters. The tuners aren't great but they do the job. Add in a set up by a good vendor (Mim) and you have ukes that you want to play because the chords are in tune, unlike other vendors' ukes. The strings are a nice playable height above the fret board and notes don't buzz.

Kala makes an excellent ukulele, and this is no exception. With a low G string and a really good set-up, Mim makes it even better. It is a beautiful uke, just like it's photo, which is an immediate attraction to others. Has no visible flaws and is smooth as silk going down the neck. The price is right, the shipping reasonable, the sound is joyful. What more could you want in a ukulele? Starstrummer, ukulele player since 1965

OK, it's not the fanciest looking instrument you've ever picked up. It makes up for it in great sound and feel. Mine is still getting broken in, but the solid top will get better the more you play it. One warning: it's got no binding around the back side of the body, so it nicks easily around there. Other than that, it's a nice instrument, and can't beat it for the money.

For just over $300 I got an all solid wood Uke. The Cedar top and Rosewood back and sides combine to give this instrument a great tone which will only get better over time. This together with Mim's expert set up make it a pleasure to play too. I would highly recommend this instrument but I would recommend you buy it from MimsUkes!

This is the second all-mahogany Ohana I've bought, and they're both amazing. With proper setup (which I always get from Mim), it plays like a dream. Very warm sound but yet plenty of projection. Ohanas are fantastic ukes for the money.
