Changing the gears on my 8 speed from stock 11T-34T to 11T-28T changed everything about the way my bike feels. Because all the cogs are now closer together, it feels more like I have a gear for everything. I highly recommend anyone with a stock 8 speed cassette do this. $21 bucks, can't beat it...It will make your bike feel more like a 9 speed instead of a 7 speed with an extra rarely used 1st gear on the top.

I installed it on my vintage Motobecane C5's Mavic Helium 700C tubular wheel in conjunction with a vintage Huret Success derailleur, vintage Huret downtube friction shifters and a KMC 116 link 3/32" chain. crankset used was a vintage Stronglight twin 52/42. Shifting across all 8 sprockets is was silky smooth and uunexpectedly silent!. I also found it very easy to install with no special or expensive tools required. Feels pretty light and looks awesome too.

OK, I admit. I'm a fan boy when it comes to Shimano cassettes. I've tried other brands, but the HG with an HG chain and a Shimano derailleur just shifts well and lasts forever. They also shift well with a SRAM chain. I've had bad luck with other brand cassettes. For the price, no sense in messing around. Just stick with one company and avoid the imitations. Less overall hassle for me.

Put this on my road bike in place of an old 14-24T cassette. Now it's easier going up hills and faster going down them. Gear shifts are clean and precise.

12-28 with 8 cogs is enough for me, more than the six speed it replaces. Just wish I could have gotten a13-28, I dont have a compact crank and with the shape I'm in these days will probably hardly ever see the 12 tooth.
