Purchased based on a Rolling Stone review....which was dead on...90 percent excellent tracks...2 or 3..above average tracks....but no duds....John Prine like disc without the lyrical excellence...great storytelling, none the less.. folksy..could have been written 50 years ago...A must for all Mellencamp followers and a great introduction for those trying for the first time..
Excellent. Great lyrics & music!!

5 guys. 1 microphone. 1 vintage 1954 Ampex tape recorder. The songs reek of real true red white and blue Americana. This ain't the best collection of roots rock music ever recorded, but it sure is a good listen. Amazing that this recording made it to distribution. T-Bone Burnett, God Bless you...
Not quite what I expected from John Mellencamp but good at the same time, almost country-ish but good, appreciative lyrics. You almost know this comes from his heart as far as who he wants to be as an artist.
Very poor effort...not nearly close to a real Mellencamp collection...should have been titled "No Worse Than This."
