Marvellously atmospheric pack - but not for everyone
This was not designed as a tarot, but, like the Rackham and Dulac tarots, extrapolated from Bauer's late 19th-cent collection of fairy tale illustrations for the series called 'Among the trolls and gnomes'. Its success as a working tarot is patchy, and not a lot of the cards are very useful for readings. One or two are very happy matches and there are some marvellous illustrations, though the reproduction quality is not absolutely stupendous. I bought it because I am very fond of the Danish artist/designer Kai Nielsen, and when you look at Bauer's artwork it is plain that he powerfully influenced Nielsen. I know some Scandinavian folk tales, and one that I am especially fond of is reproduced in this pack ('The Abandoned Merman' is a generic title). The LWB is as usual not particularly ...
