I Love the Classic Universal Monsters, and their all here in one great set! This is where it all started. If you’re a fan of horror then this is a must for your video library. The original screen Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man, the Phantom of the Opera, and the Mummy are all presented in this set. These video films star the great screen actors in the original roles. Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney, Jr., Claude Rains, Elsa Lanchester, Peter Cushing, Basil Rathbone and so many more, have created and star in these timeless roles. Revolutionary makeup, special effects, and cinematography were created for these films and stand on their own today. This compilation of dvds contains all the historic films of the true horror genre.Read full review

This is an absolutely awesome set of 30 classic monster films! The picture quality in my opinion is absolutely amazing for dvd along with the sound as well, I originally was wanting this on blu ray but found on the essential blu ray collection there is only eight of the movies on that collection! But never having any of the individual legacy collections of the classic monsters I wanted ALL of them together in one box, and this does not disappoint, to think these are the beginning of all of the horror that we know of today, and when I watch these it is amazing what they could do with the little bit of effects and hours of makeup the actors endured! With no computer imagery this makes you really appreciate how the horror genre has evolved over the years and sometimes not for the better! I truly love this set and I highly recommend adding it to anybodies horror movie library! Thanks for reading TylerRead full review

This is a great set to have! All the great Universal Horror Actors are here except for one person. Lon Chaney Sr. was the original Phantom of the Opera and also the first to star in the Silent Film version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Again, the set is a great collection, but they should have also included the silent films of the Phantom of the Opera and the Hunchback of Notre Dame with the great silent film star Lon Chaney Sr.

This is a nice set for the price. I paid $50 for a brand new Buy It Now with free shipping, but I have seen others pay less. Pretty good price for 30 separate movie titles, and there is also a 1931 Spanish version of Dracula with different stars. From the few movies that I have viewed so far the prints are nice and crisp and there are lots of special features. It looks like Universal just took some of their previous collected multiple DVD sets of their film series and put them all in one box. That's why you will find not one but three ''House of Dracula'', ''House of Frankenstein'' and ''Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein'', and two ''Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman'' in this set of seven DVD cases. Really, one of each would have been just fine. ''The Creature From the Black Lagoon'' is the 2D version and not the 3D, but it is a good print and the other two ''Creature'' movies in the set are also in good shape. If you grew up watching these great old horror films on TV you will appreciate having all of them in this one set.Read full review

Our family has watched old school monster movies for at least four generations. Our grandkids want to turn out the lights to watch the old black and white Universal and RKO, and Color Toho Godzilla and Mothra movies. Since we have been watching these movies on DVR, DVD, and even VHS tapes, when we saw this compilation of Universal movies we could not resist the purchase. Although I have seen most of the collection's movies, we now have the entire series by each monster. Yes, some were at the dawn of sound movies and are dated, and some of the later features had "worn out" plots and are kind of hokey, however, you must remember, these are monster movies and by default even the best are somewhat hokey. The biggest disappointment is the inclusion of the 1943 Universal Phantom of the Opera version with Claude Rains without the Universal 1925 silent Phantom movie with Lon Chaney Sr., including the early color scene of the opera with the mask of death. Although the later movie is very good, and nothing against Mr. Rains a very fine actor, the collection is definitely less impressive without the original movie and would have been a great opportunity to introduce an impressive silent movie to the audience.Read full review
