I was hopeful, but unfortunately, the heatshrink splits before the solder gets a chance to melt. This is with a standard heat gun (Weller 6996C), NOT a paint stripper. As soon as the insulation split, the solder began to melt, but did not reach down to the wires. It's fine for crimping & heatshrink only, but not melting the solder. Unfortunately, I think that I'd be better off using an uninsulated butt connector, soldering that by hand, then using standard polyolefin over that.
