It's metal painted with enamel if you're wondering. Ive had it set up for a few weeks now, and half the chickens are scared off when the lid flaps. Most don't go to it if the lid is down. When I use pegs to open lid a little, then they approach it. I don't distribute food in any other way. They get hungry & impatient with it. It came with puppy dog paws on the cover....maybe it's better for dogs. I have an array of chickens, I had high hopes, but I think it's not working out.
