Not the best kit but not that bad either
First released in 1974 this is the 1996 'blue box' reissue. The option pictured in the box art is N2-E based at Honington, Suffolk in 1944. The other option is 'Miss Jackie' based at Iwo Jima in 1945. There are problems with the kit and the instructions but nothing that can't be fixed. While the painting guide for Miss Jackie is mostly fine it omits the white spinner and black nose band. N2-E also has a white spinner and bands on the nose, as shown on the box art. The aircraft as pictured only had the belly bands remaining but what you choose to do with the D-Day stripes is up to you. Omit the wing and tail tip markings as they only apply to Miss Jackie and apply the standard black ID stripes instead. As to the kit itself, the propeller is poor (mine was broken). The fin fillet is optional (as shown) as is the style of cockpit hood, part 43 is standard (use this for N2-E) and 42 is the Dallas hood. There is no radio set or gunsight provided. The rear mirror is not used on either option. There is a pair of bombs, 75 gal tanks and 108 gal tanks provided but the mounting pips for the tanks are on the wrong halves so remove them and mount with the filler caps uppermost. Also replace the wing mounts as they are too small. Miss Jackie should have the 110 gal 'Iwo Jima' tanks fitted (along with sway braces) you can find these in the ancient (1963) Revell kit. The underside of the wings show two sets of ID lights so remove the port side set and paint the others in the correct colours (not shown). The wheel detail isn't that accurate either but you can probably live with that. Have fun!
