Good film for its genre.Very light hearted. Please remember this is a british film so if you don't enjoy british cinema then don't bother watching. Great acting. Very subtle, like most british films.

"Mrs.Palfrey at the Claremont" is a lovely movie. A real hidden gem in this film is Rupert Friend singing "For All We Know" to Mrs Palfrey, making me smile every time I re-watch it. The biggest reason I purchased this is just so I could watch it whenever I wanted to hear that version of that song again. Not to take away from the well done nature of this picture, it is very good and a nice wind-down time feature to relax with. Seeing their unlikely May/December Platonic friendship bloom and the clever fun it causes makes for a real feel good experience. jharr737
I am 41 and loved this movie. I watched it with my daughter, who is 12, and she loved it too. It is a very touching movie about a widow who travels to England from Scotland for a chance at independence. She is pretty much ignored by her family, who she escaped from in Scotland, for their overbearing, and unloving treatment of her there. It seemed her daughter there was taking care of her for obligation's sake and not love. She befriends a young artist and he is better to her than her own family. Dame Plowright is perfect for this part and Rupert Friend, the young artist is fantastic. It is believable and heartfelt. We will be buying this movie, as it is one that you can watch over and over again over time and still enjoy. It is convicting though and makes you think about your loved ones and how you treat them and take care of them now. They are a treasure. I think any one of any age will enjoy this movie. Well done.Read full review
This movie is a light-hearted delight for women of any age ... tho my husband of 50 years liked it also. It is especially poignant for those of us who have children and grandchildren who find us a bother. Joan Plowright is just perfect for the part of Mrs. Palfrey. The residents of the hotel where Mrs. Palfrey resides are played by actors I have never seen before, but they fill out the story even better than the ones in the book from which the movie was taken. Elizabeth Taylor (the author, not the actress) wrote some other books that would also make good movies. I decided to buy the movie because I had seen it once and wanted it for further enjoyment and to share with friends.
Mrs. Palfrey at The Claremont is a very heart-warming story.. About a friendship with 20 something young man and an lonely elderly woman , and her family never visits very often.. And all the other characters in the movie are funny & sweet......Joan Plowright is Fantastic in this movie! I have watched this movie several times and never get tired of it.. Highly Recommend !!!
