About this product

Product Information

First-person shooter enthusiasts are drafted back to the European theatre of World War II, in Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, the follow-up to 2004's successful Call of Duty: Finest Hour. As many real-life veterans and history buffs will recognize, the sequel's subtitle is an affectionate name for the United States Army's most decorated division, First Infantry. Players take the role of a soldier among its ranks. In addition to a vigorous campaign that leads them past grim landmarks of war-torn Europe and Northern Africa, players are given an opportunity for some light role-playing, as the game's story encourages them to bond with their fellow soldiers. This sense of trust may even carry over to the battlefield, where communication and cooperation are critical. As in an actual firefight, blindly storming an enemy location with guns blazing is seldom the best way to win battles in Call of Duty 2, but enhanced squad commands allow wise soldiers outmaneuver nearly any opponent, through tactics and teamwork.

  • Call of Duty 2: Big Red One (PS2)

Having played and enjoying the first Call of Duty game on the Playstation 2, I was psyched to play the second in this series. My motivation was furthered by the Greatest Hits pricing ($19.99). CoD2 is by far the best WW2 first person shooter I have played to date (having played many brands). The graphics were stunning and choice of vehicles proved top notch. Many of the battles quickened my pulse and immersed me completely into the action. Buildings exploding and bullets flying just over my head. One feature I really enjoyed was commanding the gun turrets aboard an airplane and a tank. That was very satisfying. The ground and tactical battles were my favorite though. The only problem I experienced would have to be my fellow soldiers A.I. They were often in my way and would tend to shoot ...

  • Wonderful experience!

Though Call of Duty 2: Big Red One shares its name with another game released on the PC--and soon to be released on the Xbox 360--you shouldn't confuse the two. Big Red One for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube is an entirely different game from the PC and Xbox 360 versions. While it's a definite improvement on Activision's last Call of Duty game for consoles, Big Red One still doesn't do quite enough to distinguish itself from numerous other World War II first-person shooters. No, it's not a brand of chewing gum. Big Red One is the US Army's 1st Division. The subtitle, Big Red One, refers to the United States' Army's 1st Infantry Division, whose exploits are chronicled in the game's 13-mission campaign. The unit became known as one of America's fiercest and most courageous ...

  • What A Game! I am so pleased with this purchase.

This game is amazing. I had no idea that the game would be as good as it is. It's so good that I am limiting myself to how much I play it, because I don't want to finish the game right now. I bought the game to pass time, but the minute I turned it on I was hook. The graphics and everything else about it is so amazing. Also, I think I really appreciate it more due to the fact that I have some knowledge about The Big Red One. It was a reading/movie viewing assignment for a class that I took, and I just thought it would be cool to play a game that I know everything about. Just knowing so much about it makes it that much better, because I know that it's just not a game, but it actually follows history, and it covers so much details. This game is a must have. I have not played many war games, ...
