Freeze, flight or fight! This book happens to be the "nuts" on mannerisms and their fundamental reasons. Certain body responses are hard-wired into us as human beings, and are based on many thousands (if not a million) years of evolution. Many poker-pros are very good at concealing their reactions and emotional states, but the vast majority of poker players simply are not. But snapping off a bluff or becoming aware of a player with a very strong hand is just one part of the benefits when it comes to understanding the messages of this book. The more interesting situations actually occur when none of the players in the hand really have much! And this is the vast grey area inbetween, where decisions must be made without too much conviction. Who will first betray his doubts and uncertainty? If your opponent does not really believe he is ahead, you will not need much of a hand yourself to take down the pot. You could even pull the trigger with 7-2 offsuit!! Poker is a game of deception, but most of us are just bad liars when the heat is on. Navarro does not only tell you WHAT, but specifically also WHY, so buy this book and be amazed... When I first picked the book up to scan it's pages, I soon discovered that this was not only going to be an easy read, but also very captivating, I didn't want to put it down. I laid the book on the desk at work and my boss came by and picked it up, I thought I was going to be without it for awhile, as he wouldn't let go of it. I got the book, and it is now in safe keeping until I can finish reading it. I'm not a big poker player, in fact I hardly play the game at all, but was interested to see what tools the pro's use that gives them their edge. I would highly recommend this book, if not to learn how the game of poker is played, then for the interesting stories and to gain a close up look at some real pros. Who knows, after reading it I just may want to try my hand at the game.
Joe Navarro does and excellant job of marrying his skills as a former FBI Interogator to interpreting poker players behaviors and intentions. He describes how and why different behaviors can predict what is going on in a poker hand. He also guides you at how to avoid giving off "tells". This combined with poker great Phil Helmuth, this is a must read for any poker player looking to improve their game.

Gives good information about how to read peoples mind without asking them questions and make them suspicious about it. Not only useful in poker, but also useful in real life. Check it out if you can, not an expensive book.
