    Diodes are pretty much diodes

    All 5 of these germanium diodes were within .001V of each other measuring the forward voltage. Very nicely matched! I bought another set of 5 of the same brand and they too were nicely matched with the previous 5. Excellent quality.

    Works!!

    I had one in backward with full power against my power supply and it protected the circuit (instead of the intend because of my error) I burned the part before it in the line but the diode definitely works! once installed the circuit has noticably less leakage than silicon diodes.

    1N34 germanium diode replaced galena crystal in radio set.

    In the 1950s my hobby radio called a crystal set was improved by replacing the galena crystal and probe with a 1N34 germanium diode. silicon has a different forward voltage drop than silicon.
