WORKING MANS TUBE SCREAMER ON A BUDGET!
After so many years without a specific OD pedal, I thought I was just about in a position of relying strictly upon what i could get from channel 2 settings on my amplifiers for a lead tone, specifically. I had and continue to use a MXR Custom Shop Micro Amp Plus, but it's intention was to be set up almost always for use with a chean channel, more as a volume boost. Problem is there is just too much great music from the 70's and 80"s where more grit is needed for lead tones, and you don't necessarily want to toggle over to the gain channel on the amp. Like the Maxon version and the original Ibanez TS808, both made in Japan, the secret to these pedals' tone is whether the infamous JVC JRC 4558 Bucket Brigade IC chip is part of the signal path. There are some really good pedals out ... There are some really good pedals out there that can produce convincing lead tones that do not use this chip, however, you will not get the same tonal palate, especially if you are concentrating on a middle or neck position pickup. This is the first EH product that incorporates the Bucket Brigade chip, among several completely new releases around this year's Summer NAMM. Having that third pot control for tone is a must have , IMHO, though not all competitors have one. If you want more than good classic fuzz, but need less than high grain through your amp's tone stack, these "tube screamers" are a bargain, and MFI has likely the best price out there.

Smooth Blues
East River Drive, as New York as you can get. I would say its very transparent, very warm, very smooth, very creamy. Great for blues and jazz, New York style not Texas :-) I think its a bit to smooth for Texas blues, but perfect for the midnight blues.

Really solid Tubescreamer style pedal
Bought it mainly because this pedal won the blind Tube Screamer comparison by Andertons, over the ‘real’ deal. Great price, solid build, tone is great. Slightly less middy and somewhat looser (less compressed) than a standard TS but in all the ways that I like. I’ll keep it.
