About this product
Product Information
Play the exciting basketball game that smashed arcade records in the comfort of your own home with NBA Jam Tournament Edition for Sega Genesis. Using real NBA players and teams, this game is full of turbo-charged sports action and the trademark dunks and On Fire gameplay that made this game a huge hit. All that separates you from a flaming Clyde Drexler slam is the quick push of a button. NBA Jam Tournament edition also adds new features, players, and power-ups, which make this the definitive version of this brilliant franchise. In 1995, NBA Jam Tournament Edition was released for Sega Genesis. This game uses real NBA basketball players and rosters from the 1994-95 NBA season. The primary game mode is 2-on-2 basketball, and players can play either against each other, or on the same team against the computer AI. The tournament edition version of the game adds some new elements, including new players and a team made from rookies that joined the league in the 1994 NBA Draft. NBA Jam Tournament Edition adds a turbo element to the game, which allows the player to push and hold a button for a speed boost. This version of the game also adds power-ups, which allow the players to make half-court dunks or achieve On Fire status immediately rather than having to make three consecutive shots. Being on fire makes it easier for your players to sink shots, and gives you unlimited turbo. The game also adds hot spots, which are temporary locations on the court that give the player more points for a basket made from that spot. There’s also a Tournament Mode, which challenges the player to beat all 27 teams. The Genesis cartridge contains a special battery in side of the cartridge that allows you to save your progress. This game is also compatible with Sega Genesis consoles with the Sega CD add-on. This game is, however, a cartridge. All of that comes with the standard high-flying game play that NBA Jam fans have come to expect. The draw of the 2-on-2 games are the crazy, inventive dunks and long-range three-point shooting, and all of that is included here. The game play also features a lack of enforced fouls, which means you can knock down your opponents and steal the ball at any time. Beware, however, because they can also do the same to you. The original NBA Jam arcade game was released in 1993 by Midway Entertainment and quickly acquired a huge playerbase, and by early 1994, the Amusement and Music Operators Association stated that NBA Jam had already become the highest-earning arcade game of all time. Iguana Entertainment, which would later become Acclaim Studios Austin, handled the porting, or converting, of the game to the popular home consoles of the time, such as Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo (SNES).
