I bought it because it was low priced and a good name product, but afer I got it I can't figure out how to open the case without destroying it to install a different Hard drive. This is a USB External drive. Also it did not come with the CD with the software and I find out that it is next to impossible to get the software for it. That is discouraging, but it's still a very good drive and works good as a backup when done manually. Just wish I could find out how to get the case open, it bugs me to death. I may eventually use a "can opener" on it, even though it damages the case so I can use it with other hard drives. Meanwhile I have bought an empty hard drive case for my other hard drives so I can use them for External drive backup. I'm not sure if I knew the problems I would have that I would have bought it, although the seller was very good and that made a big difference in my decision.Read full review
This drive is technology from 2002 or so, but it is very reliable. I have several of these running constantly, working good and running cool. It has an EIDE interface, turns 7,200 RPM, has an 8 Mbyte "Jumbo Buffer" and a five year warranty. You can expect seven to ten years of reliable use as long as you don't get in too much of a hurry.
Bought these drives to get an old computer up and going. They were a good price for the pair. Unfortunately one will not install I have tried everything I have at my disposal for wiping the drive but the info keeps coming back. It test fine with the diagnostic software but just won't wipe. Only thing I haven't tried is old DOS and a fdisk. It's got me baffled but for the price I guess I can deal with it I got the computer up and going. Just have another drive to add to the "junk" pile.

Got it put it In loaded software and I am back up and running again.
WD has always made great 7200rpm drives, these are no exception. The WD1200JB hard drive is great for any G3 or G4 that can only control up to 128GB hard drives. I've got WD1200JB's in my G4 Cube as well as my iMac G3 Grape. They have made these old machines fun again! Enjoy!
