Good heavy mega-bass sound. The features of the radio work well, the only drawback is that the tuning knob on the one I got is quite stiff. That makes it difficult to switch stations without only using a fingernail instead of just a fingertip. I'm hoping that it will loosen up with use. A very tiny, compact unit with BIG sound, which is nice. The clip makes it easy to affix it to any outfit and take it anywhere. I'm not using the earbuds that come with it though. I prefer the old sony MDR-WO8 type, so I can't speak to the earbuds quality.

Wanted to replace my 10 year old compact radio with a new one and because I had been so happy with the performance of my old Sony I purchased another of same model. It was very expensive compared to anything else but I wanted same sony brand etc. New one arrived but the quality is not good. The dials are so thin they hurt your fingers like a serrated edge knife. They are also so stiff its almost impossible to turn them. When the tuning dial does move it jumps to far making it near impossible to tune stations. My original was made in Japan the new ones in china. Very disappointed with it considering the high price.

Love the small radio. My older one of the same brand the on off button is touchy so sound not good. Needed to have another the same, as excellent when cannot sleep, & does not disturb my partner. Was so pleased to find one as not many around. Using 1 AAA battery is good as long as remember to turn off. Just be careful with the ear plugs as if yank on the cord too hard, may damage the plug in socket. area.

Sony SRF-S84/S has one drawback: I use it for my running exercises. After one week of running the qulity of contact in the headset plug became bad and sound is not smooth in every step of my run. As a comparison I met the same problem with Sony Walkman SRF-M37W after 9 years of my usage.

Awesome mini radio, IF you don't mind being extremely patient and dexterous when tuning in stations. It can with patience, get decent reception, but because of it's small size you have to take your time and make micro movements of the tuner wheel. I'm completely fine with this, but it could really annoy some people. Once you get your station tuned, the sound is very good. Some stations sound better depending on the mono vs stereo setting, and the bass boost vs regular setting. You just have to try all four options to decide which sounds best on your current station. Improper earbuds can also worsen reception and sound quality. I don't like the comfort of ones the ones supplied, so I bought some basic Sony ones with soft silicone ear inserts, that work very well. Don't get earbuds with a mic or volume control, as those can impair the use of the cord as an antenna. I love this radio, but I could see some people finding it too difficult to use.Read full review

My old Sony Walkman reached the end of its life and I replaced it with one of these. The sound quality is good if you can get it tuned on to a station. The dials are hard to move and fiddly, The reception is really bad. It is so sensitive as to whether is is horizontal or vertical or facing N,E,S or W! A portable radio that is so sensitive to reception is just about useless. I would never recommend this product.

I have had several radios of the same model for many years. the quality of the build was strong and solid. this radio is lightweight and flimsy. either Sony have reduced the quality of this radio or it is an inferior copy. I have used this radio in many remote areas and it has always performed well. I have yet tested the new one in those conditions.

I like the size of the radio, but it will not stay on the station i want to listen to. I am constantly having to adjust it. If I go around anything running off electricity it goes all static. I am surprised at this because Sony has always been a good product before.
