This review covers the features of the box set and is not a review of the film. Upon opening the box set there are 2 slim dvd cases inside the box. The first being death/rebirth, and the second containing The End of Evangelion. Both movies appear to be double sided dvds with no screen labeling, but the End doesn't have material on the 2nd side. Death/rebirth has lots of bonus material on the 2nd side along with entertaining commentary and other bonuses. One feature I truly enjoyed was the capability of 5.1 and 6.1 surround sound. Overall I enjoyed both movies with and without the commentaries. Death is a very interesting movie on its own rehashing or summing up the Evangelion series, while Rebirth is the first third of the End of Evangelion movie, so you will be switching dvd's if you plan on watching the whole End movie through. The best experience would be to ignore Rebirth on its own and consider Death and End of Evangelion for a full effect although it is a minor inconvenience.Read full review
Not the best transfer but this is what we got back in the day. If you are collector like me, and you do not care about picture quality, you should get this version. The bluray release is approaching, but we do not know if It comes with original Audio and features. Until then, this is your best option for EOE and Death and Rebirth in physical form.

Although Death & Rebirth doesn't have much in the way of new content, it is easily the best way to "catch up", as it were, and it's a visual treat regardless. The End of Evangelion needs no introduction. The slipcase is nice and sturdy, and it has a neat shimmer effect. The DVDs themselves are exactly the same as the individually-sold films, down to the packaging--the Death and Rebirth DVD says "also look for the End of Evangelion film!", for example. The real draw to these--other than owning them physically in the first place--is the original English dub, which is worth seeing just because of the iconic cast, many of which reprise their roles in the currently-running film series. It has a liturgy of problems--acting is generally not up to snuff but is totally passable, but there are still specific moments that are done poorly. Furthermore, although the script is largely a great translation both in terms of tone & meaning, there are certain points that feel like the liberty taken was too far. However, the specific moments shouldn't discourage anyone from checking out this version--if you don't mind the dated acting quality, it's overall great for the time it came out!Read full review

This boxset is the only DVD English Language copies of End of Evangelion and Death and Rebirth. What comes in the box (two posters ,a postcard ,and same catalogs) are very fun bonuses. However the quality of the DVDS themselves leave a lot to be desired. The positives I can say is that the audio and extras featured on the disc are very well handled, however the picture quality is very poor and almost looks like a bootleg version of Evangelion. So unless you’re a really dedicated fan to Evangelion or a collector, I would find a better way to watch the movie. Tldr: everything is great but the image quality.
