A must for any collector, or casual fan of the original g1 "Transformers".
I purchased "Transformers Identification and Price Guide" because I had the original g1 Transformers as a child. My parents kept them for me, and over the years I simply forgot about them. I started to take an interest in them again in about the last five years when the newer movies were released, and when I moved into my own place I dug my old ones out of storage. I decided to get into collecting when Hasbro did a release of the older g1 figures under the "Universe" line and "Generations" line. As well as both Hasbro and Takara releasing "Masterpiece" editions of some g1 figures. This book gives detailed information about the original figures released from 1984-1990. Tech Spec info, commentary from the author, as well as price listings for collectors on the secondary market are also ... I purchased "Transformers Identification and Price Guide" because I had the original g1 Transformers as a child. My parents kept them for me, and over the years I simply forgot about them. You really can't go wrong with any publication of Mark Bellomo's. Having links to the creators of the toys themselves, Bellomo has put together the most thorough reference guide on the subject possible. Included within are all of the Transformers of the vintage era, complete with full-color photos, history, methods of grading, and a clear pictorial and text explanation of the easily lost accessories that make the Transformers complete. This book is perfect for both collectors and sellers alike to help identify particular figures and assess their values, especially useful in the modern era of online auctions. 'Transformers Identification and Price Guide' is a must have for anyone with an interest in this subject. Also recommended is Bellomo's 'The Ultimate Guide To G.I. On the cover of book is present a olographic card with Optimus Prime images that change form with inclination of cover; the giant size of pages (approx 21x27 cm) are ideal for archive all material, the graphic style is simple, the various size pictures are maybe confused, but this is a secondary details; the book open it with an introduction to Takara prehistory and considerations on Diaclone and Microman series, in next pages you pass to all series, from first series (1984) to seventh series "Action Masters" (1990). All products has be presented with info related to group, subgroup, function, motto, tech spec and additional notes on toy and character profile, for all toys are present picture of robot and alt mode(s). Mark Bellomo has done a wonderful job putting together a guide for Generation 1 Transformers. It covers seven series of Transformers from 1984 to 1990, and includes all of the traditional characters (Optimus Prime, Megatron, Hot Rod, etc.) as well as the Generation 1 Targetmasters, Headmasters, Powermasters, Pretenders, and Micromasters. This book does not include any Transformers produced after series 7 in 1990 (so no Generation 2, Beast Wars, or tie-ins from the live-action movie are included). The book’s greatest assets are the pictures of every accessory for every figure in Generation 1. Thus allowing collectors to identify what accessories go with what figure, or identify what may be missing. It also features pictures of every Transformer in robot mode, as well as when ... Mark Bellomo has done a wonderful job putting together a guide for Generation 1 Transformers. It covers seven series of Transformers from 1984 to 1990, and includes all of the traditional characters (Optimus Prime, Megatron, Hot Rod, etc.) as well as the Generation 1 Targetmasters, Headmasters, Powermasters, Pretenders, and Micromasters. The book also contains a couple paragraphs on most figures describing their role, identifying easily damaged or broken parts, and other details to watch for. The book also has a price guide for complete mint figures, mint in box figures, and mint in sealed box figures. This guide’s biggest detraction is that it never addresses how to identify a true Generation 1 Transformer from Generation 2 reissues, Takara reissues, Toys R Us reissues, and a host of other imitations and knock-offs. Certainly identifying every reissue is beyond the scope of the book, but a few words on how to identify what is a Generation 1 Transformer and what is not would have been very useful since some reissues look very similar to the originals. Also, most figures are unlikely to be both Mint and Complete, so a price guide for loose figures in good condition without accessories would have also been useful. All in all, this is a useful guide for identifying Generation 1 Transformers and their accessories, and should come in handy in building or organizing your vintage collection.
