I am a big fan of Spawn. Collecting Spawn comics, seeing the live-action movie three times, staying up late to watch the animated series on HBO(when it was airing), and getting the games for the consoles that I have are all examples of how much I am a Spawn fanatic. Now to the game. Spawn is an action/beat em up game that takes you on a mission to Hell and back(literally) to save a little girl named Cyan, the child of Wanda Blake(Spawn's former wife)and to square off against various foes from the comic(Violator, Redeemer, Vaporizer, Overtkill, and more). Spawn has different special moves he can do such as restoring his health and using his chains and cape to fight off enemies. Your power guage represented by the numbers 9999 will decrease when you use a special move. The good news is that it can be replenished after defeating certain bosses. The backgrounds are decent and the music definitely sets the mood of the level you're playing. When you're tired of playing, you can always come back to where you left off by enetring the password you received after clearing that level. This game is worth checking out and shouldn't cost too much on here. I think the game could've been a little better, but it's the SNES for goodness sake. Playing the game again after beating it shouldn't be a problem. Practice makes pefect. Enjoy.Read full review
The game is what you'd expect in any 90's 16 bit beat em up, which can make it a bit repetitive. The real charm in this game, however, is the complexity of moves available to Spawn. The controls might seem hard to master at first, but after a few tries you'll swear your playing a fighting game masked as a generic beat em up. For fans of 1994 era Spawn, all the characters are here, & the story line is ripped from the comics! The visuals are basic, the baddies all look like they've been ripped straight from Spiderman & Venom: Seperation Anxiety (another great game), but great care & attention was given to Spawn himself. He uses his cape & chain as weapons, & animation for those & other moves are impressive! The game itself is a bit on the short side with 6 level, & each resembling the variety of most beat em ups. It is one player. There is a password system, but instead of continues, Spawn has a timer bar that decreases every time he comes back to life, which after some boss battles can be refilled to some varying extent. All in all, it is a great mindless game for any Spawn/comic fans. Fans of beat em ups won't find too many new things with this title other than the creative fight style of Spawn, but if your nostalgic for early 90s console games & entertainment, then give Todd McFarlane's Spawn a try!
