I don't give 5 star reviews easy! This is arguably the best two player game on the Sega Genesis! Great game with many elements including high 5 each other to share life, great humor between characters, often greeting each other when entering into the same area of the game. Full screen when both players are on the screen at once and it goes to split screen when separate. It is great fun to open many various presents found all over the stages. Once a present box is identified you know every present that looks like it has the same item. Identify by opening one, or by talking to the man in the carrot suit. Yes, really! Its important to avoid the randomizer item, else lose knowledge of all identified items!! Maybe that is good to use when your down to junky presents?? Chow down on moldy fungus or totally sweet pizza in this epic two player classic!Read full review
I picked this gem of a title up at a second hand store and I was amused and amazed at the point of this game. Going around level after level looking for pieces of your spaceship to get back home.Along the way, you have to avoid the Earthlings that seem to get in your way, the moldy or bad foods, and collect lots of presents that are oddly wraped like it was Christmas or a birthday. Music/Sound - 10/10 Very cool. It's really funny to hear them say ''Hubbu hubbu'', ''MONEY!'', or them screaming ''WAKE UP!!!'' or the sounds the Earthlings make. The music is not repeative, almost every level has its' own music. Some of the sounds like when you level up or get hurt or fall are priceless. Controls - 7/10 Fairly simple control system, A to creep by Earthling like your tippy toeing around, B opens the menu for the presents, and C opens, throws away presents and whatnot. Not hard to figure out or use, maybe too simple. And of course your Up,Down,Left,Right and Start pauses the game. Graphics - 9/10 Not the best, not the worst I've played or seen. Could of been better. Each level is different, but at the same time the same. "Random World" isn't really random besides what levels the ship pieces are located, thats about it. Sprites seem to look clean and sharp. Gameplay Value - 9/10 So, Sega made a sequel, and then out from nowhere, years after the Genesis, a third one for the X-Box. Shows how much fan base this game still has. I play this game all the time, I like to get out my Game Genie and type in codes so my presents don't ever wear off and get some Icarus wings on and repeativly open up that one present that makes Earthlings, around the machine to go to the next level, get into it and wait for my friend to get there and try to get in, it's loads of fun.Read full review
Back when I was a child I played this game a couple of times and fell in love with it (its like ya know how every system out there has that 1 great game you cant live without, well this is the game for sega genesis). so twenty something years later I bought a sega to play this game!! it is incredibly easy to play but yet still a challenge because of all of the crazy characters running around. You play as toejam (and or) earl and have crashed your rocket ship and your mission is to find the hidden rocketship parts on the many levels. But while searching beware of the silly characters that like to get in your way (drill crazy dentists, fat ladies with shopping carts that will run you down, cupid and his arrows, man-eating mailboxes, sharks in water, hula girls that make you dance, walking carrots, even a santa claus with a rocket booster pack) be sure to grab all the pretty presents laying around full special treats and fun things like rocket skates and wings to make you fly. this game is a must and you will never ever see a game quite as hillarious and weird as this one.....It is rare and can be expensive but totally worth it. Remember it would not be expensive if everyone did not want it..Read full review
Toejam and Earl was my second game for the genesis many years ago and I was impressed by its unique sense of humor and its nearly unlimited replayability. The game features two aliens named Toejam and Earl who crash landed on Earth. Now their goal is to recover the ten rocketship pieces from twenty-five levels. This game can be played solo but is best played with a friend. There are three game modes, fixed world, random world, and jam out. While fixed world remains the same, random world is where the game really shines providing a unique experience every time. Jam out allows you to make your own beat to different background tracks. The cons to this game are that it's a little slow going at first and the game is fairly long considering the era it was made. Two sequels have been made but the original is still the best. I highly recommend this game to anyone wanting a fun and enjoyable experience.Read full review
My mom and I both play video games, but there is one in particular we have played since I was like 6. That's Toejam & Earl! Everyone I know who has owned it has had it stolen, including myself. I saw someone sell just th case and booklet alone for $40 on eBay! The game can run up to $75 and still sell! It's absolutely insane! But this game is great! Comic mischief? Check! Two aliens trapped on a planet have to find the ten pieces of their spaceship scattered over 25 levels. Ya walk around to find the elevator for each level, avoiding the many different "earthlings". You find presents like tomatoes, icarus wings, root beer, etc. Also, there are rain clouds, library books, and even earthlings in the presents, so be careful! All in all, a WONDERFUL game! If you haven't played it, shame on you!!!Read full review
