Fantastic little camera needing some TLC- bargain if it keeps going!
I have owned many canon film and digital cameras, and except for a faulty ccd sensor on my Canon Powershot A80,(no notification to Canon customers -only retailers!) I am still a proud owner of a Canon Powershot SX1IS 20xzoom CMOS sensor and therefore not subject to faulty Sony ccds which were manufactured into many big brand name cameras. I was very careful to check all ebay Canon Ixus cameras against the Canon recall list. Only a few Ixus cameras were affected according to the list, the Ixus V2,V3,II,IIs 330, 400,430 & 500, so this 2010 Ixus 105is should be ok for many more years. I also bought this camera based on generally very good product reviews on most Canon Ixus cameras, including this Ixus 105is, which was an above average good all round compact camera according to my reading of ... The camera is very compact, easily fitting a small shirt pocket, and has a 4x optical zoom. It takes very good pictures on large file format on the high speed Sandisk 8GB SDHS sd card. It works perhaps even a bit better on my Sandisk 4GB Ultra SDHC cards. Having reset the camera to Large file format from W format to use the full 12.1 MP & full picture on the lcd screen. I also increased screen brightness and picture shots to vivid. I have been getting excellent pictures with every shot from macro, full optical, and digital zoom, and flash. Flash effective distance is 2-3metres which is to be expected from such a small compact camera. The item had been advertised honestly, noting that it had been operating temperamentally about 10% of its use. The overseas holiday trip pictures which were still on the card all seemed excellent except for a few lap and shoe shots but I also noticed a about 5% where focus had not been set first. Could have been some grit/ sand in the telephoto drive/mechanism, since every now and then small white particles come out on the telephoto case -maybe sand from all the beach shots. After full charge of both batteries and some general servicing according to an excellent Canon repair community blog I found, the camera has been working very well so far, so I am very pleased, as will my 11 year old grandson when he gets it as a gift tomorrow. The camera has many more scratches than expected on the case and lcd fixed screen, but a screen protector I installed (cut down from an Iphone screen protector)has reduced visible scratches when viewing pictures. Overall a good deal, bought with the hope I could repair its temperamental issues, which so far so good, I may have succeeded. Professional clean and repair would have exceeded the worth of the camera. The camera has also unfortunately been dropped or knocked a couple of times, indicated by two distinct dents one on battery cover corner and one critical dent on the front lens surround. This may also account for the temperamental issues which have not surfaced yet after 30+ photos.. However for the excellent price of about $26 dollars including $12 postage(post office stamp $6.60) I am very happy so far. Excellent value for money, I'll keep praying that for my grandson's sake it keeps working, unlike the Canon A80 whose ccd sensor died on him, leaving only sepia and black and white options-not much fun!!

Overall, with just $120 and brand new, I reckon I scored a bargain.
