I have to get used to a wide screen monitor. To me the wide screen is wasted on a monitor UNLESS you are watching a DVD. I rarely do, so the effect is wasted. NO instruction book with it OF COURSE. Just a large page which is supposed to be FOR you to install & set up. Mine came with a weird cable that DOES NOT FIT ANYWHERE ON MY OLD HP COMPUTER. As said NO instruction book. So, HP what is the deal with this cable. The menu button is hidden underneath the front of the screen. Key word here UNDERNEATH. I do NOT like this here. I would rather have them on the front. The menu is confusing. Remember again NO INSTRUCTION BOOK to explain things. I was able to fix one of the problems with it by using the HP website but the unsolved problem remains. I use Word Pad ALL THE TIME. I use the color fonts ALL THE TIME. Colors on the Word Pad or Micro Soft Task Launcher do NOT look like they are supposed to. Orange looks like red. Purple does not look good, dark red, brown also look wrong. Now, you would think with the menu you could fix this with brightness or something. Nope. HP website ONLY stated the cables are not installed properly. WRONG. So, I would say the monitor is OK, but with the things I mentioned above, I can NOT rate this more than a 3 out of best 5.Read full review
This HP monitor is a great value. It has great native resolution at 1600 x 900 and is clear with both VGA and DVI-D options for connecting to computer. Makes it easy to use as either primary or secondary monitor. Brightness, color palette and contrast are great out of the box and Windows 7 x64 recognized and set up this monitor without a hitch. The only annoyance is the OSD of display status when computer boots.
This monitor now sits side-by-side with my first 2031 working in dual mode. AB comparison of various wallpaper screens shows very slight differences when both monitors are configured to factory spec. This not an issue in regular use. The real value for me is the ability to run a program on one monitor and see its demand for resources on the other. Changes in temperature, percentage of demand on a given component, etc. now display in real time. I look forward to an application that will give me two windows into a wider field of view. I recommend this monitor for its high quality and reasonable cost.
My old monitor was only a couple of years old but started to have problems with coming on. I ordered this one that was on sale and the quality was much better than the old one and much brighter. I have had several other monitors but this is only the second thin design one I have had. I lke them much better and will only have this type from now on. I am 73 so I don't expect to have all that many but my daughter is only 50 and she really likes them much better also. She keeps all of us in the family with working computers all the time. I have only had HP computers and products so really can't compare to any other brand but my daughter likes them. She says she would really like an Apple but still out of her price range as yet.
Picture quality is good and works well. No setup, just plug it in and start your computer.
