First off, it's MUST see for any Halo fan! I found out about it on youtube while looking up machinima clips just for some laughs to hold me over until I could kick my sister off the Xbox. I had heard about it from friends a year or two beforehand, but until I had actually gotten addicted to Halo, I had no interest. Once I found a few episodes on Youtube, and then the RoosterTeeth channel and website, I had to finish the series. It's ADDICTING- just as much as actual Halo. The characters are loveable. Either you have a favorite or you like them allll. You have Church, leader of the Blues, and he always gets caught up in whatever mishaps are going on at that moment. Tucker, the perverted one who's laid back and just wants to use the sniper rifle. Caboose, the dense one that's great for laughs! Sarge, leader of the Reds, always coming up with whacky ideas. He doesn't believe in Pumas or Walruses. Then Grif, the super lazy one, and Simmons, the kiss-up. Donut's a newbie to the red team and has a "light red, not pink!" suit of armor. Tex, the BA girl that will take out anyone she's told to. You don't mess with her, even though she's a girl. They're situated in one of my favorite maps for most of the game - Blood Gulch. There's a red team base and a blue team base, not much else at all... But somehow there's never a boring moment with these guys! From tanks no one knows how to drive - "Why are there six pedals if there's only four directions!" - to Warthogs, giving any of these guys any sort of weapon is not advisable. You'll also notice, if you're into Halo, the Red vs Blue online episodes. Bodies litter the ground as Caboose and Sarge encounter this for the first time- "Look! A sleeping person!" Then, suddenly the bodies jump up and go back to their bases, where they regroup and attack the opposing team, trying to steal their flag. They are not major characters, but you'll certainly LOVE those parts if you've ever played Capture the Flag online! The story starts out with a small plot, but it thickens every episode until the later episodes are full of plot. It may get confusing, as it deals a lot with time travel. Overall, brilliant and witty and very worth every penny you spend on it! This series takes you through Halo 1 and Halo 2. If you keep going, the series continues through Halo 3. The graphics on the youtube videos show how it originally looked, with the target in the center of the screen that turns red when the viewer sees an "opponent". But these DVDs have a remastered version- no target blocking your view there! Highly recommended for laugh after laugh.Read full review
|| OVERVIEW || I recommend this for anyone ages 14+. Red Vs. Blue was really the first of its kind (or the first decent machinima anyways). The writing is wonderful, the characters are great, and overall, it is a very memorable experience. You don't have to be a gamer or fan of the Halo franchise to enjoy this amusing romp--I would recommend this series to anybody who has a pulse. Even the humour is surprisingly clean considering this day and age, although, if it's something you care about, there is some swearing. The episodes are extremely memorable, and even though I haven't watched season 1 or 2 in years, but I can still quote almost every episode--they were that entertaining. || CONTENT || You cannot go wrong with this collection. It features nearly nine hours (8h 49min) of RvB episodes and bonus content. The first 100 episodes are included, remastered, in this collection, which already makes it a must, as the first 100 episodes are all classic. Not only that, but the bonus content on the DVDs almost justifies the price by itself. It includes Xbox live miniseries "Out of Mind" and "Recovery One", great audio commentary by the filmmakers, special videos, deleted scenes, alternate endings, hilarious outtakes, hidden tracks, PSAs, documentart footage, some rare RvB clips and much much more. || IF YOU ALREADY HAVE SEASONS 1-5... || This collection should still be worth your money, seeing as it's remastered and has some rare bonus content. Try and get it on sale, and you won't be disappointed. || BOTTOM LINE || There's never a dull moment in this DVD collection, and there's not a minute that passes by without something to laugh at. It's great value for your money, especially seeing as seasons of other shows sell for this much per season, and this one includes 5 seasons PLUS bonus content. This collection is a must for any Halo fan, and a strong recommendation for any other gamer or those who don't even play video games. I'm telling you, this series is a classic, and this collection should not be missed!Read full review
If you like to laugh then this is a great series. If you don't like to laugh, well thats just sad. Maybe you should watch it anyway. Couldn't hurt. Unless you cry alot. Then it might actually hurt cause there's not too many sad parts. Also, If you watch it and don't laugh, simply write an e-mail to roosterteeth.com and they will not give you a full refund. But they will laugh at you. I know I would. There's one episode with a spider, that was hilarious. Unless you suffer from arachiphobia. You probably wouldn't laugh. You would probably run screaming or throw a book through your 46" flat-screen tv. Still a win though, cause i'm sure your friends would laugh at that. I know I would. But I'm sure that there are very few RedvsBlue-related flatscreen deaths reported annually. Therefore, I would buy this box set. Actually, I already own it. But the point I'm trying to make is that you should buy it too. Seriously. It's funny.Read full review
(Contains very strong language.) I have watched the first season at least 10 times and quote it constantly. My wife is not into video games at all, and cracked up the entire time. You don't even have to know what Halo is to love this series But the later seasons just aren't very good, to be honest. New characters are annoying (Andy, Doc, O'Malley), the plot is way confusing and hard to get into, and good laughs are just few and far between. By season 4 it became a chore to even finish the series. It was a little disappointing to me to have bought the whole set, because I probably won't ever watch seasons 2-5 ever again. Remastered first season and bonus content are really the only things worth getting in this set.
This series has always been great and continues to be great and humorous in DvD form. However a word of warning, the viewing space is really limited. The amount of video shown on a screen is approximately 1/3 of a screen. I believe this to be because of how it was originally captured. This series originates from the web so it may have been recorded with certain dimensions in mind, and not DvD format. It remains rather entertaining regardless.
