I gave this book to a friend because many years ago I had a copy of the spiral bound edition for repairing and rebuilding my "bug" engine. My friend's grandson has just purchased an old VW BUS. I thought he would find the book useful and entertaining.

This is the best written and illustrated book dealing with repair and maintenance of air-cooled Volkswagens that I have seen. It has a touch of humor that helps one get through notty problems, and is written in clear and easy to understand language. It is very well laid out making any information needed easy to find and follow. The illustrations and photographs are very clear and concise, and the images with humor are just the right touch. This book takes the place of at least 4 others that I previously had and I will keep it in a handy place as long as I own a Beetle! Thanks, John and Tosh, well done!
This book is very easy to navigate and is extremely informative. Chapter titles (i.e. Volkswagen Doesn't Stop: Brakes) set the mood for each section of the book, and lots of background information is given. Unfortunately, Muir is not God when it comes to Volkswagens and a lot of the information that he gives is just plain wrong. Take everything in this book with a grain of salt (ESPECIALLY when he's talking about switching from vacuum lines to mechanical. That's just stupid.) If you're a VW newbie, however, you can't get much better than this book.
I got this as a gift for my husband. This is one of the best gifts ever! He loves the book. Not only is it helpful and contains tons of information, it is also fun to read and look at the illustrations.

It is written from a common man's experience with the vehicle. His suggestions on how to work on the vehicle comes from his own experiences over the years. How to solve issues with simple tools, and when to take the vehicle to someone when it is above your abilities. Very enjoyable!

Have used one of these manuals in the past, so I bought it for a friend to help with the restore of his VW. Lots of good information, and fun to read !

This book is the standard when it comes to Volkswagen maintainence. It's been around forever, and still manages to be sold, both new and used, as well as reissued (it's now in its 19th edition). I would recommend it to anyone who is just starting out with the VW scene, or someone who'se been around VW's their whole life. It's simple, easy to understand, and covers just about everything the enthusiast will ever need to keep their VW alive.
This is a must have for VW air cooled maintenance and repair. Even if you're not a mechanic this book is easy to read and understand. Hands down I like this book. Explains how it works, what to look for and how to repair VWs. Much easier to read and understand than a shop manual.

I gave this book as a present to my girlfriends son who is just learning about the wonderful world of prehistoric technology called air cooled VW's! I gave him my project 1966 Beetle Baja bug to work on:)
