The movies are Universal Studio sci fi's from the black and white 1950s. Here is the rundown and my personal opinions: Tarantula...really good; Clint Eastwood in tiny role as a jet pilot The Mole People...I think the Morlocks looked better as underground subhumans! The Incredible Shrinking Man...really good special effects; battle w the spider has always been scary The Monolith Monsters...saw this when I was nine & never forgot it! Showed it to my Mom who thought the monoliths were asparagus..! Now we call it "The Attack of the Giant Asparagus" Monster on the Campus..not bad; laughable at times; Troy Donohue has a part Dr Cyclops...Albert Dekker playing a very scary doctor who shrinks people Cult of the Cobra...haven't seen this one yet; how bad can it be seeing "beautiful women turning into serpents." What do the ugly women turn into? The Land Unknown...haven't seen this one The Deadly Mantis...this one makes you feel like you are watching a high school film it has so many 'historical' references; take notes...there may be a quiz later on! And the Mantis looks pretty cool, too! The Leech Woman...no, not a film about Sarah Palin but a pretty decent flick If you love sci fi flicks w unsophisticated special effects, no blood, gore or mayhem or color...then make sure you get your hands on this one. It is the best of the best. And remember: when you see the monsters, stand, put your hands up to your face, and scream! It won't help matters but that seemed to be the standard reaction women had to display in just about every single 50s sci fi pic!Read full review
These films were produced at a time when to see a film in a theater was inexpensive and fun. Before I forget, you can also buy a large popcorn without takeing out a second mortgage on your home. These classic horror films were made on the "cheap" but were interesting and entertaining. I personally like the special effects of "The Monolith Monsters" with the pretty Lola Albright who stars in this epic fresh from the "Peter Gunn" television series of the 1950s. There are ten movies in all, some better than others but of course its a matter of taste. "The Incredible Shrinking Man" still can keep an audience at the edge of their seat. The storyline and the special effects still work today. This film alone is worth the price of the entire DVD collection. If you are into high tech special effects, high definition and sex scenes peppered throughout the film, pass on this collection. If you're into monsters films with non-confusing story lines and pretty women, get this collection. I promise you'll be watching these DVDs over and over. I rate this collection EXCELLENT.Read full review
The Monolith Monsters - I remember watching this movie as a kid. Glued to my seat, watching in fascination but yet horror as people turned to stone. While the alien monster grew and grew, either killing them by turning them to stone or by crushing them as they grew and fell to the ground. Some people might think B&W movies are corny but I like watching a movie that's clean! No sex, no foul language, no gory chopped up people. Some can call that boring, I don't. I don't want to see the drama as people are slowly turned to stone, watching them agonize, choke, sputter and finally die. That's not important, and these movies now days focus on it. That's BORING! The Monolith Monsters is a classic must see. Back when morals were high and where people lived by certain respectable standards. Yes RESPECT. The Tarantula is a good one. It's creepy how that thing rambles around killing. But it's neat when it stretches a web across a highway and catches a truck, it's next meal. :) The movies are a 4.5 out of 5. This collection is in the same ranks as War of the Worlds (1958), When Worlds Collide, and It Came From Outer Space. Classic science fiction at it's best!Read full review
I have always been a big fan of these old Universal Horror/Sci-Fi films from the 1940's to late 1950's. This classic SCi-Fi Ultimate Collection is definitely worth purchasing. I was so pleased with these films in this collection, especially some more classics from director Jack Arnold(Creature From the Black Lagoon) such as Tarantula, Monster On The Campus and The incredible Shrinking Man. Plus other gems such as The Deadly Mantis, The Mole People and The Land Unknown just to name a few. Great for late night viewings and of course good double features, due to the length of each film just running under 80 minutes. Get the popcorn and candy and be prepared for a fun thrilling night!!

I’ve purchased DVDs of old sci-fi and horror films in the past and been disappointed with the quality of the audio and video, so I was hesitant to purchase this collection. I was very pleasantly surprised by the image quality of these old films. I have an up scaling Sony blu ray that makes the movies look better than ever. I was particularly pleased with the clarity of the transfers, Tarantula, The Deadly Mantis, and The Monolith Monsters in particular. The high quality audio and video breathed new life into these old favorites. Five stars!
