Sigma is on a roll with their art lenses. This is my third (also have the fast 20mm and the 24-35mm Art lenses) and its likely the sharpest of the trio. Very sharp even at f/2 with very nice bokeh to differentiate the subject from the background at f/1.4, I was shocked to get excellent results at f/16 for a recent landscape trip. I've seen images from the competing Zeiss 85mm at much higher price, and the Sigma is the "clear" winner, especially for the money. A little heavy, but I used it on both my Sony A7RII and Canon 5DSR. Great resolution match for both the highest res Sony and Canon cameras.

Most people would compare this to the canon version the 85Lii, and comparing the prices 1800 for the canon and 1200 for the sigma there's no reason to buy the canon, the sigma is just sharper, faster, has less CA, it's just overall a better lense, don't get me wrong the canon is legendary, but this sigma is somewhat of a evolution of what the canon would have been if it ever be updated, but like I said for this lense to truly perform at 100 it needs to be calibrated ...sad I know, out of the box this lense was back focusing on everything short distances or infinity it was just not focusing properly, that's what the sigma dock is for, yes for a lens at this price it shouldn't need no calibration and sigma needs to up thiere QA game, if you want to save 600 bucks get the sigma and calibrate it yourself, if you can't handle a simple lense calibration, look else where, once calibrated this lens is spot on, very accurate, extremely sharp! It's just an amazing piece of glass, heavy yes! But I like the weight. Bokeh is just amazing as you can see in the two images I provided, it has a slight lens curvature that I like depending the background of course. I would have given it a four stars because of the calibration issues but if you can look past that and do the calibration yourself which only takes an hour or two at most you will have a very accurate and well built lens for life. I’ve use the Nikon 85 1.4 in the past. In comparison the Sigma Art 85 1.4 is a much better value. The buttery bokeh and color separation is in intense. I also have the Sigma art 35 1.4 and sigma 70-200

The Sigma ART line is fantastic, and the f/1.4 85mm is the flagship lens. It weighs a lot, but it’s one of the sharpest pieces of glass you can put on your camera (read the reviews). The only competition is Canon L, but Sigma stands toe-to-toe - at a much lower price

Incredible lens. The performance is fantastic and the pictures are beautiful. I went back and forth on buying this lens for the longest time because I’ve only had canon lenses, and I’m mad at myself for waiting so long to just do it. Worth every penny.

It seems pretty good so far. Still getting used to it and getting used to a fixed lens. I'm so used to being able to zoom for certain shots so now I have to move more. The clarity is very nice. It is a bit heave which I knew going in but I think I'm going to like it.

I’m very impressed with the sharpness of this Lens, for the money I paid for my Canon L series lenes I should have gotten the same quality . Can’t beat the price, so far I have two Sigma lenes... 85mm f1/4 and the 50mm f1/4. The only down side would be the weight... Very heavy, but I can live with it.
