A young boy grapples with the emotional and psychological effects of a dead-end life, in this independent drama from Canada. Jesse (Maxime Desjardins-Tremblay) is a twelve-year-old kid growing up in a rough neighborhood in Montreal. Jesse is fascinated with professional wrestling and regularly attends matches featuring local grapplers, and given his home life it's no wonder he craves escapist entertainment -- Jesse's father (Stephane Demers) is a low-rent crook who ignores him, and his mother (Suzanne Lemoine) is too busy maintaining her drug habit to be bothered with him. Jesse's only real friend is Max (Jason Roy Leveille), a former pro wrestling trainer with whom he regularly shares a park bench. The little boy's dreams consist of entering pro wrestling himself and using that sport as a vehicle to escape from the ghetto, though this proves far more challenging than he ever could have imagined. Meanwhile, the family's oldest son, Sam (Maxime Dumontier), not only drifts into serious crime, but threatens to pull Jesse down with him. LE RING (aka THE FIGHT) was screened as an official entry at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival.
