About this product

Product Information

The Tamron SP A005 lens is made from expert materials that help stop chromatic abnormalities from occurring. The superior optical design of the Tamron camera lens for Sony features low dispersion and extra low dispersion lens elements that prevent photo distortion. The materials help the photographer who's using the Tamron SP A005 with a camera take excellent photos with sharp contrast and great performance. In addition, the auto-focus mechanism on the 70 - 300 mm f/4.0-5.6 lens, otherwise known as the USD (Ultra Silent Drive), results in speed, which is ideal for taking photos of racing activities, sports, and more. • Okay for a $200 lens

I am using this Tamron on a Sony a7 with a Sigma MC-11 adapter. The auto focus constantly hunts, so I use manual exclusively. It is also very squeaky on autofocus. It is pretty sharp up to about 225-250mm. It gets mushy at any focal length beyond that. The VC works very well, and gives me about 3-4 stops of image stabilization. It is better stopped down to ƒ8 or above. As I say, for a couple of hundred bucks it is an okay lens. I have taken some pretty nice bird photos, but I do wish it was sharper.

  • Low price for a Good Value lens

As with all glass, you get what you pay for. The SP version of this 70-300mm lens is better than its younger brother having the same description, just without the SP. Do not expect it to be as sharp or free of distortions as a $900 (or a $25000 for that matter) lens. It is a very good next step for those shooters wanting to be closer to the action/the subject at a reasonable price. It is almost as fast as the 18-55mm zoom that is included on most DSLR cameras and takes very good pictures out to about 250, but beyond that clarity fades a little. I would recommend a monopod along with the lens to reduce shake.

  • Tamron SP 70-300mm Review

This lens is awesome! The quality is amazing, the focus motor is very quiet, and the build looks and feels solid.

  • Great product

Great product with ultra low price... Thanks a lot! This is an A-Mount lens glued to my Hasselblad HV (tuning Sony A99)... Also, this lens works great with my Sony A7RII via LA-EA3 Adapter! Great image quality at 300mm... With my Sony A7RII: I can push it to 2X zoom optic, because this is a 42mp!

  • Good value for money

I own the canon version and i´ts a very good lens for the money, not perfect of course, the zoom ring is a little bit sticky. About the sharpness you should close it at F/8 to get the the maximum sharpness. I use it mostly on sunny days to photograph birds and it´s a nice starting lens for wildlife photography.
