Technics introduces a five-disc CD changer that will not only give users hours of uninterrupted digital music, but will let them create customized digital recordings with no loss in quality. Equipped with optical digital output, model SL-PD5 is poised for the future of home recording. When editing to another digital audio format, to make your own "greatest hits" collection, for example, this optical link ensures a pure signal transfer devoid of electrical noise. The changer's optical output can also be used to get the most out of a growing number of DTS (Digital Theater Sound)-encoded CDs when connected to an optional DTS decoder, such as Technics' SH-AC500D, or the SA-DX930 receiver with built-in decoder. With Technics' "Play One, Change Four" design, users can replace any disc, except the one that's playing. For outstanding audio performance, this Technics CD changer employs the MASH 1-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC). MASH virtually eliminates distortion so every recorded sound is faithfully, and stunningly, reproduced.This model also uses an advanced digital servo system with completely automatic adjustment, for even greater reliability. Before play, the changer scans the CD for problems or flaws, adjusting laser operation individually for each disc. As a result, they can play through certain warpage, dirt and other minor imperfections that can cause CDs to skip. The SL-PD5 CD changer offers users a variety of playback methods. In addition to sequential playback of all loaded discs, there's single-disc random play, full-carousel random play and Spiral Play, which plays all the first tracks, then all the second tracks, and so on. Listeners can also program up to 32 tracks - from one or more discs - in any order. Or, they can simply program the songs they want removed from the play list. This "delete programming" even works in the random mode. Of course, listeners can also repeat a single track, one disc, all five discs or programmed songs. Programming options are simple with a new telephone-style, 10-button keypad on the unit's face. This player also has a front panel graphic display showing which discs slots are loaded and which disc is currently in play. With all of the above features, this model is a picture of great performance at a budget-minded price.
