Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Home Theatre Systems
I had looked at several Home Theater Systems both online and at local stores. I was looking for something economical, compact, with clear surround sound. I stumbled upon this unit online and the more I researched the more I was totally impressed. I never buy an electronic product without consulting expert and consumer ratings and reviews. The positive reviews far outweighed the negative comments for this unit. When several reviews favorably compared it to the Bose, I was hooked. The negative comments stressed lack of features and quality in comparison with higher priced units which usually were massive and bulky. I was not interested in being blown away by multiple speakers, woofers, watts, etc. nor did I expect this from the Philips. But what it did provide for the money was, to me, simply astounding. It met my three basic criteria above with aplomb, but it also won me over with its asthetic appeal. When I saw a fantastic low price for a new unit on E-Bay, I was almost ready to make the plunge. But first, I went to a local dealer (Circuit City) to actually see and hear the unit while comparing it with others on display. I was totally convinced that this unit fully met my expectations. After receiving the unit and using it I am convinced I made the right decision in my selection. Finally, I am totally amazed with the quality and features offered for such a modest price. I have also noticed after purchase, that local and online prices for this unit appear to be increasing rather than typically decreasing for similar electronic devices.Read full review
Sounds good for movies (Rate: 7/10) & Terrible for audio cds!!(Rate: 4/10). Keep in mind this is a 2.1 system so it tries to simulate everything for surround. I have never heard a good 2.1 system yet to compare to a 5.1. It has no controls for treble or bass, only presets for EQ which is my biggest bitch.. argh! Otherwise I really like it alot so far. Best things about it are it plays just about any format and it has USB, DVD , MP3 Direct and AUX sources. HDMI great for keeping it a simple solution for small spaces and the video is great. Mine needed firmware updates out of the box which were really easy to do with good instructions from Philips.com support site. The subwoofer is not powered. Good depending on where you have to place the unit(worked well in my situation) or not so good because it is not to powerful and might help for the lack of audio cd quality. I'm not a fan of Bose systems but still do not think people should try to compare this to Bose technology. Price wise this is a good alternative and worked decent for my applications.Read full review
You cant go wrong for the money. Not everyone lives in a McMansion or can afford a room designed for T.V. viewing. For those of us who cant, or don't have a huge space or just dont want to hassle with wires this is a great system. The movie picture and sound are awesome! You really don't know what you are missing until you get one. The music sound is good, but could be better. overall, I am pleased.
This sound system has excellent sound quality. The "rear speaker" effects are actually a lot better than I thought they would be. Well worth $119 (nothing is every worth the shipping you pay).
The over all sound of this system is excellent. I have in my master bedroom. Very pleased with the Phillips surround system. small compact unit dvd picture is excellent
