This is hands down the prettiest uke in my stable. The attention to aesthetic detail is phenomenal. Technically, my experience is a bit mixed. A few of the gears have some internal scraping, and after several weeks the strings are not holding in tune very well from one day to the next. This is minor for casual playing but for long play or session playing it might become a bit of a nuisance. It's possible that the strings just need a bit more time, but most of my ukes hold their tunings within a week or less of changing the strings. The action is very good. There was a bit of a buzz on the 2nd string at first, but after I changed the strings that cleared up. I did change the strings out from the Aquila to Martin M600 clears - I felt the tone improved remarkably with this adjustment, but this is, I think, a matter of personal preference. I really like the long neck and the extra real estate you get with this without sacrificing volume or the unique Hawaiian sound that sometimes happens as you move up to larger ukes. In this respect, it's a great hybrid. The bottom line for me comes down to two things: playability/comfort and sound quality. I was not at all disappointed in these two areas (I found changing to Martin strings increased the quality of both). The tone is great, the sustain nice, the feel to the fingers smooth. What did surprise me, though, was that the sound and playability of this uke was not superior to my Dolphins, which cost over a$100 less (about 2/3 less - $46 versus $149). These are both made by the same company (Makala is Kala's "entry level" line). I have a cache of Dolphins, and I found that the playability and sound on all of them was as good or better than the Kala long neck. Given this, I would recommend that if you're only going to have one uke (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - surely I jest!), or this is your first uke, start with the Dolphin. It's more versatile and is just as good or, as I say, better, than the more expensive Soprano Long Neck; the only real advantages of the long neck over the Dolphin are (1) Slightly more space on the neck and (2) The extraordinary beauty of the long neck. So - 5 stars, because in most cases an item should be judged on its own merits. If I were going to compare it to, say, the Dolphin, it would come in a strong 4 star.Read full review

I have owned this ukulele for a week and it is one of the best sounding sopranos I've ever played. The solid spruce top and finish really make this ukulele stand out. Very fun, easy to play and a great value. Highly recommend this to anyone.

Get the solid spruce top version (KA-SSLNG), it makes a big difference in tone! For those who already want that more traditional soprano uke sound with the room of a concert scale neck, this is definitely the way to go! Kala knocked this out of the park at this price point!

This little soprano was in good shape except for one spot considering it had absolutely no packing in it whatsoever. Sounds bright clear and warm tone. Recommend it
