At last, a book on wind or weather forecasting that does not require the mind of a meteorologist to grasp. It does not go into deep detail; it says what is needed to be said clearly and concisely; it has reference tables, and it is all supplemented by fine photography. It is a book that is completely understandable., Instant Wind Forecasting is Alan Watts' follow up to his popular Instant Weather Forecasting. Like his other weather reference guide, this book allows weather-watchers to compare the sky they see in front of them to one of the book's several color photos. When you find a matching sky, read the accompanying text to find out what to expect from the day. Watts' detailed explanations also offer variations for coastal and inland sailing, pre-race planning and two pages dealing specifically with winds over the Great Lakes. The author, a former meteorologist, is the first to admit that it's rather risky to compartmentalize wind conditions. Instant Wind Forecasting won't make you an instant America's Cup contender. It will serve as a quick, handy guide to what you should expect during your day on the water.
