I use a laptop stand from Logitech which makes the audio plug (which is on the front) inaccessible. I wanted to be able to listen to music (the laptop speakers are good for a laptop, but not up to music), so I found this AudioHub thing which works via USB. It isn't USB powered, has its own adapter. Plugged it into my Debian Linux rig and didn't have any trouble getting it working. The sound is really quite good for the size of the thing, no complaints there. It is big enough and heavy enough that you wouldn't really want to lug it around (but you don't really want speakers in a cafe anyway). If you are using a laptop as a desktop, this thing is gread. I don't know if there are any drawbacks to the fact that it uses USB instead of an audio plug. For me that was essential. It of course takes up a USB plug, but has three USB ports itself, for a net gain of two. I've seen it run $75 elsewhere. I wouldn't pay that for one, but for about $25 it was definitely an excellent buy.Read full review
This speaker is wonderful! It has a great sound that fills our small home with high quality sound. We can listen to internet radio with better sound than we have on our standard stereo. My husband is hard of hearing and our soft Mac speakers don't do the job, but this speaker does. I can't recommend it too highly.
Nice design, was hoping for a little better sound. If you have a 17" laptop the speakers only extendes out about 1 1/2 inches on both sides. The main reason for purchase was the USB hub that is built in. All in all I am happy with the purchase, would I have been if I paid the $100 that Logitech is selling it for... No, but for about half that its well worth the price.
I shopped around for something small that had multiple usb ports for all my "stuff". I found that the design along with the ability to keep things organized is a great feature. The quality of sound is top notch, perfect for a dorm or office.
sounds pretty decent, but i've heard better. I don't like how angular it is; it doesn't fit too snugly between my wall and my laptop :p No real complaints about it though. I've spilled a ton of water on it, and it hasn't suffered any damages. Definitely durable with a pretty satisfying sound. I love the volume control; it changes the volume by very tiny increments per increment turn.
