As boxer Rocky Balboa (in a screenplay penned by the Italian Stallion himself), Sylvester Stallone comes out swinging with heart, humor and unforgettable power. Rocky is a Philadelphia club fighter who seems to be going nowhere. But as fate would have it, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) chooses him to be his next opponent. For Creed, the match is little more than an exhibition, but for Rocky it´s a shot at the big time. Preparing for the bout under the watchful eye of his trainer (Burgess Meredith), Rocky romances Adrian (Talia Shire), a shy young woman who exposes the tenderness beneath his tough exterior. Their love blossoms as the fight approaches, giving Rocky even more strength and purpose to "go the distance" against his brutal adversary.
In my opinion, one of the greatest movies of all time. A good moral tale about the archetypal underdog striving to overcome adversity and rise through the ranks. Penned by Stallone himself, this tale is inspiring and set the way for many fighter movies to come through the late 70's and 80's. Stallone is humourous yet passionate, lacks some self-esteem but determined. A winning film. Highly recommended
Being a fan of the Rocky films, this next installment was a treat. This film finishes off the series nicely. Rocky 1 & 2 were good,3,4 & 5 not so good. The final Rocky has the usual, some familiar characters and some new ones, a training scene, a fight scene and a story aswell. I thought it was great.
Rocky, the first and the best. I had forgotten what an excellent film this is and not just for the sake of nostalgia. A stand up film, with a beginning, middle and an end, what a great job Sylvester Stallone did writing this film. A great addition to anyone's dvd collection.
